Os eleitores paraenses decidiram, em plebiscito realizado dia 11 de dezembro de 2011, manter o estado unido e negaram a divisão territorial para criação dos estados de Carajás (na região sudeste do estado) e Tapajós (na região oeste), decisão esta tomada com mais de 66% dos votos (válidos), conforme os resultados oficiais do Tribunal Regional Eleitoral: o resultado final foi de 66,59% votos para o "NÃO" à criação do estado de Carajás e 66,08% rejeitando a formação do estado de Tapajós.
Voters of the Para decided in a plebiscite held on 11 December 2011, maintaining the united state and denied the territorial division for the creation of states of Carajás (southeastern state in the region), and Tapajos (in west), a decision taken over 66% of the vote (valid), according to official results of the Regional Electoral Court: the end result was 66,59% votes for the "NO" to the creation of the state of Carajás and 66,08% rejecting the formation of the state of Tapajós.
A população começou a comemorar a vitória nas ruas, antes mesmo da divulgação do resultado final.
