Aristides Maria Pereira (Boavista, 17 de Novembro de 1923 - Coimbra, Portugal, 22 de Setembro de 2011), começou a sua vida profissional trabalhando como rádio-telegrafista, onde chegou a Chefe dos Serviços de Telecomunicações, na Guiné-Bissau.
Aristides Maria Pereira (Boavista, November 17, 1923 - Coimbra, Portugal, September 22, 2011), began his professional life working as a telegraph-radio, where he became head of Telecom Services, in Guinea-Bissau.
A partir da década de 1940 Aristides Pereira envolveu-se na luta pela independência de Cabo Verde, e juntamente com Amílcar Cabral, fundou o Partido Africano para a Independência da Guiné e Cabo Verde (PAIGC), em 1956, assumindo o cargo de Secretário-Geral, em 1973.
From the 1940 Aristides Pereira was involved in the struggle for Independence of Cape Verde, and along with Amilcar Cabral founded the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) in 1956, took over as Secretary-General in 1973.
Com a conquista da independência, em 1975, Aristides Pereira se tornaria o primeiro Presidente da República de Cabo Verde, cargo que manteve até 1991: neste ano, e após eleições democráticas, Aristides Pereira perdeu a presidência para Antônio Mascarenhas Monteiro.
