A princesa Marie Cristine Michael de Kent (foto - Wikipédia), que pertence à família real britânica, esteve no último dia 20 (maio de 2011) em Petrópolis. Ao lado de Francisco de Orleans e Bragança, representando a Família Imperial Brasileira, ela conheceu as dependências do Museu Imperial e lançou um livro. A visita também foi acompanhada por Kenneth Light, da Sociedade de Amigos do Museu Imperial e do Instituto Histórico de Petrópolis, assim como pelo diretor da instituição, Maurício Vicente Ferreira Júnior.

Casou-se em 1978 com o príncipe britânico Michael de Kent, primo da rainha Elizabeth II, mas que não possui deveres reais. Mesmo assim, a princesa já representou a rainha em alguns eventos pelo mundo. Decoradora e mãe de dois filhos, Marie-Christine é formada em História da Arte e autora de três livros, entre eles Coroadas em terras distantes - Triunfo, Tragédia, Paixão e Poder na Vida de Oito Princesas Europeias, lançado ontem no Museu Imperial. O livro conta a história de oito mulheres que se tornaram rainhas fora de seu país de origem.
Marie-Christine Agnes Hedwig Ida von Reibnitz was born in Czechoslovakia in 1945. He married in 1978 with the British Prince Michael of Kent, cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, but that does not have royal duties. O passeio no museu começou pouco antes das 12h e, além de assinar o livro de visitas da instituição, a princesa foi presenteada com dois livros, sobre pedras preciosas e jóias brasileiras e aquarelas brasileiras. Houve ainda um momento de emoção para a princesa, que recebeu a cópia de um jornal de 1931, o qual noticiava a visita do Duque de Kent, pai do seu marido. Logo depois, ela se dirigiu para um almoço no Solar do Império, que incluiu a presença de representante do governo municipal, o presidente da Fundação de Cultura e Turismo, Charles Rossi.

No retorno ao museu, o Coral dos Canarinhos de Petrópolis, sob regência do maestro Marco Aurélio Lischt, fez uma apresentação especial com quatro músicas de compositores brasileiros, na Sala da Batalha. Ela gostou muito da apresentação e agradeceu ao maestro pelo espetáculo. Recebeu também presentes da centenária instituição petropolitana: um CD do coral, um fôlder e uma caneca decorada com nomes de grandes compositores.

Antes, porém, Maurício Ferreira lembrou a importância do 13 de maio, que marca a abolição da escravidão no Brasil. “Essa é a data em que comemoramos a assinatura da Lei Áurea, importante por marcar um período de mudanças na sociedade brasileira. Lembro também que a Princesa Isabel estava neste dia em Petrópolis e só foi ao Rio de Janeiro para assinar a lei”, destacou o diretor do museu.

“As oito princesas que têm suas histórias relatadas no livro também foram escravas. Elas nasceram em meio à riqueza, mas não podiam escolher com quem iam se casar e não tinham liberdade para fazer nada. Muitas acabavam indo para longe e casando com homens mais velhos, nem sempre tinham a sorte de ter homens jovens e bonitos como Dom Pedro”, disse a princesa Maria Cristine. Entre as oito biografadas de sua obra está a Imperatriz Leopoldina, primeira esposa de Dom Pedro I.
“The eight princesses who have their stories told in the book were also slaves. They were born into wealth, but could not choose with whom they would marry and had no freedom to do anything. Essa é a terceira vez que a princesa Marie-Christine visita o Brasil. Ela já esteve no Pantanal, na Amazônia e em São Paulo, além de visitar amigos. Só que dessa vez fez questão de vir de navio, para ter a mesma impressão da chegada da imperatriz Leopoldina no Rio de Janeiro, em 1817. “Eu amo Petrópolis. Já conheço um pouco do Brasil, mas tenho muito mais para visitar”. Depois da palestra, seguiu para uma sessão de autógrafos no Museu Imperial, tendo feito em um dos livros uma dedicatória especial para a Presidente Dilma Rousseff.
