O ex-Vice-Presidente da República (Brasil) José Alencar (centro) se emocionou ao receber no início da tarde do dia 25 de janeiro de 2011 a medalha “25 de Janeiro”, na sede da Prefeitura de São Paulo e em agradecimento fez um discurso improvisado e bem humorado.
Former Vice-President (Brazil) José Alencar (center) was thrilled to receive the early afternoon of January 25, 2011 the medal "January 25" in the City Hall of St. Paul and in gratitude made an impromptu speech and humorous.
Participaram da homenagem a Presidente Dilma Rousseff, o Vice-Presidente Michel Temer, o ex-Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, o Prefeito de São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, o Governador de São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, e o Cardeal Arcebispo da capital paulistana, Dom Odilo Scherer.
Participated in the tribute to President Dilma Rousseff, the Vice-President Michel Temer, former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Mayor of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, the Governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, and the Cardinal Archbishop of São Paulo city, Don Odilo Scherer.
A honraria foi entregue pela Presidente Dilma: Alencar faz há anos tratamento contra um câncer e, por conta da doença, está internado há três meses no Hospital Sírio-Libanês, em São Paulo, e esta foi a primeira vez que ele saiu do centro médico desde a internação.
The award was presented by President Dilma: Alencar do for years against a cancer treatment, and on account of illness, is hospitalized for three months in the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Sao Paulo, and this was the first time he left the medical center since admission.

Em comemoração à data da fundação da cidade de São Paulo (foto), a homenagem foi instituída pelo Decreto Municipal nº 51.094, de 10 de dezembro de 2009, cujo texto estabelece que a honraria é concedida para quem mostra “mérito pessoal, bons serviços prestados à cidade ou serviços dignos de especial destaque, valor desportivo ou cultural”.
In celebration of the founding of the city of Sao Paulo (photo), the award was established by ordinance No. 51,094 of December 10, 2009, the text states that honor is awarded to those who show "personal merit, good service to town or services worthy of special mention, sports or cultural value”.
A elevada condecoração mede 70 mm de diâmetro e é estampada com o brasão da cidade cincundado pela inscrição: Município de São Paulo – Medalha 25 de Janeiro, e o colar tem 15 reproduções da medalha, em 15 mm, banhadas a ouro 18 quilates.
The high award measures 70 mm in diameter and is stamped with the emblem of the city encircled by the inscription: City of São Paulo - Medal January 25, and the necklace has 15 reproductions of the medal, 15 mm, 18 karat gold plated.
São Paulo foi fundada em torno do colégio da Companhia de Jesus no dia 25 de janeiro de 1554 e entre os fundadores estava o padre jesuíta José de Anchieta: situada a uma altitude de 860 metros, no planalto de Piratininga, no Sudeste do Brasil, e ocupando uma área de 1.525 km2, a cidade de São Paulo cresceu e se transformou na maior metrópole da América Latina e na terceira maior cidade do mundo, depois de Nova Yorque e de Tóquio.
