O Brasil foi descoberto pelos portugueses no dia 22 de abril de 1500.

Afirmou textualmente o Presidente, em fala que foi divulgada também pela página do Palácio do Planalto na internet:
On his radio program “BREAKFAST WITH THE PRESIDENT”, the day 27/07/2010 The President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (photo), of Brazil, said there was a debt of Brazil and Africa that will never be paid in cash. Literally said the president, in speech that was also released by the page from the Presidential Palace on the Internet:
“É importante a gente nunca esquecer que nós ficamos 380 anos praticando escravidão neste país. O Brasil foi o último país do mundo a abolir a escravidão. Acho que nós temos uma dívida enorme com o continente africano, com o povo africano. É uma dívida que a gente nunca vai poder pagar em dinheiro. A gente vai poder pagar em solidariedade, em ajuda humanitária, em ajuda ao desenvolvimento, em ajuda no conhecimento científico e tecnológico que o Brasil tem a ajudar o povo da África. Assim como o Brasil, todos aqueles que conseguiram crescer colocando em prática a política, eu diria, intolerável da escravidão”.

O escritório de cooperação que Portugal vai abrir na capital do MALI, Bamako, ajudará a dar um "impulso decisivo" nas relações bilaterais e no intercâmbio econômico entre os dois países, afirmou o cônsul honorário de Portugal em Bamako, Yacouba Dagnoko.
The office of cooperation that Portugal will open in Mali's capital Bamako, will help give a "decisive impetus" in bilateral relations and economic exchange between both countries, said the honorary consul of Portugal in Bamako, Yacouba Dagnoko.
De acordo com Dagnoko, Portugal pode "tornar-se num destino universitário importante e absolutamente acessível para muitos jovens do Mali". "É um destino mais acessível e abre também portas para os países africanos de língua portuguesa e o Brasil", salientou.

Na REPÚBLICA DO MALI, onde o BRASIL se faz presente através da EMBRAPA - Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária, há um projeto voltado para o melhoramento da cultura de algodão no continente africano. O Mali está interessado em ampliar essa cooperação, de modo a incluir a produção de hortaliças, legumes e frutas.
O Mali possui outros grandes parceiros comerciais, entre eles Costa do Marfim, a França, a República Popular da China e a Bélgica.
In the REPUBLIC OF MALI, where BRAZIL is present through of the EMBRAPA - Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, is a project focused on improving the culture of cotton in Africa. Mali is interested in expanding this cooperation to include the production of vegetables, legumes and fruits.
The Mali has other major trading partners, including Ivory Coast, France, the People's Republic of China and Belgium.

O Ministro das Relações Exteriores do Brasil, Celso Amorim, foi recebido no Mali, e também na Guiné Equatorial e Togo, na viagem que fez ao continente africano de 22 a 24 de outubro de 2009.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Celso Amorim, met in Mali, and also in Equatorial Guinea and Togo, the return trip to Africa with 22 to 24 October 2009.
Representantes de diferentes órgãos envolvidos na cooperação Brasil-África e empresários acompanharam o Ministro Amorim nesta rodada de encontros internacionais.

Na Guiné Equatorial e no Mali foi a primeira visita de um Chanceler brasileiro. No Mali, o Ministro participou da abertura de seminário empresarial bilateral e visitou a fazenda-modelo de produção de algodão, iniciativa brasileira, e participou da primeira colheita do produto, lançando, também, a pedra fundamental do Laboratório e Centro de Capacitação. No Togo, já houve visita do Brasil, mas há 37 anos, e foram mantidos contatos bilaterais, o mesmo ocorrendo na Guiné.
In Equatorial Guinea and Mali was the first visit by a Brazilian foreign minister. In Mali, the Minister attended the opening of bilateral business seminar and visited the model farm for cotton production, the Brazilian initiative, and participated in the first harvest of the product, releasing also the cornerstone of the Laboratory and Training Center. In Togo, as was seen in Brazil, but 37 years ago, and were maintained bilateral contacts, the same occurring in Guinea.
