BRIEF HISTORY
A Guiné-Bissau, que se tornou independente em 24 de setembro de 1973, é um país com 36.544 km2 da costa ocidental da África que se estende desde o cabo Roxo até à ponta Cagete e faz fronteira a norte com o Senegal, a este e sudeste com a Guiné-Conacri (ex-francesa) e a sul e oeste com o oceano Atlântico, e a cidade de Bissau é sua capital.
The Guinea-Bissau, which became independent on September 24, 1973, is a country of 36,544 km2 of the western coast of Africa stretching from Cape Roxo Caget to the tip and is bordered on the north by Senegal, and this southeast by Guinea (formerly French) and the south and west by the Atlantic Ocean and the city of Bissau is the capital.
Além do território continental, integra ainda cerca de oitenta ilhas que constituem o Arquipélago dos Bijagós, separado do Continente pelos canais do rio Geba, de Pedro Álvares, de Bolama e de Canhabaque.

Actualmente faz parte da Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP), das Nações Unidas, dos PALOP (Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa) e da União Africana, sendo que o crioulo da Guiné-Bissau é idioma reconhecido mas não oficial.
Today it is part of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), the United Nations, PALOP (African Countries of Portuguese Official Language) and the African Union, and the creole of Guinea-Bissau is recognized but not official language.

O Brasil foi descoberto pelos portugueses no dia 22 de abril de 1500.

A sua primitiva estrutura foi erguida por forças portuguesas a partir de 1696, foi reconstruída em 1753, conforme planta do Frei Manuel de Vinhais Sarmento e a partir de 1766 foram-lhe introduzidas alterações no traçado, de autoria do Coronel Manoel Germano da Mota, sofreu reparos de 1858 a 1860, sendo que no século XX, foi restaurada a partir da década de 1970, sob orientação do Arquiteto Luís Benavente.

O Arquipélago dos Bijagós faz parte da Guiné-Bissau e é constituído por 88 ilhas situadas ao largo da costa africana, classificadas pela UNESCO como reserva da biosfera, sendo que a reserva conta com uma diversificada fauna na qual se contam, entre outras espécies macacos, hipopótamos, crocodilos, aves pernaltas, tartarugas marinhas e lontras.
Bijagos Archipelago is part of Guinea-Bissau and consists of 88 islands off the African coast, classified by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve, and the reserve has a diverse fauna which rely on, among other species of monkeys, hippos, crocodiles, wading birds, turtles and otters.
O arquipélago tem uma área total de 2.624 km2 e uma população calculada em cerca de 30.000 habitantes (2006), mas apenas vinte das ilhas têm populações significativas, já que a maioria ou são desabitadas ou têm populações muito reduzidas.

2010 - ELECTIONS IN BRAZIL: SEVERAL COUNTRIES SENT OBSERVERS
O Presidente do Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE), do Brasil, Ministro Ricardo Lewandowski, recebeu no dia 03 de outubro de 2010, na sede do Tribunal, um grupo de 73 observadores internacionais que estiveram em Brasília acompanhando o processo eleitoral e, também, assinando acordos de cooperação na área de Justiça Eleitoral: eram visitantes provenientes de cerca de 30 países, principalmente da África e América Latina.
The President of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Brazil, Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, received on October 3, 2010, at the headquarters of the Court, a group of 73 international observers who were in Brasilia accompanied the electoral process and also signing cooperation agreements in the area of Electoral Justice, were visitors from nearly 30 countries, mainly from Africa and Latin America.
No grupo estavam representantes de Angola, Cabo Vede, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique, Portugal, São Tomé e Principe, Timor Leste e outros e, também, da CPLP, sem contar países da América Latina.
