Barbados é uma ilha, pouco montanhosa, o país mais oriental das Caraíbas (Caribe), na América Central, com área de 431 km2, situado no Oceano Atlântico, a leste de Santa Lúcia e de São Vicente e Granadinas, na região conhecida como Índias Ocidentais, que tem como capital Bridgetown, sendo que este país teria sido descoberto pelos espanhóis em 1492 e foi visitado pelos Portugueses de 1536 até 1625, época em que foi reclamado pelos britânicos, que dois ou três anos depois iniciaram sua colonização (a lingua oficial é o inglês).

No Brasil, sede do Ministério Evangélico Internacional Valorizando a Vida!, liderado por +Dom Moysés Barbosa, Dilma Roussef é a primeira mulher a ocupar a Presidência da República, nos 510 anos de história do país sul-americano, e será empossada dia primeiro de janeiro de 2011. O Brasil foi descoberto pelos portugueses no dia 22 de abril de 1500.

As relações formais entre os dois países tiveram início dez anos após a independência de Barbados, com a abertura, em 1976, de um Vice-Consulado em Bridgetown e em 1977, acreditou-se um Embaixador, residente em Port-of-Spain, mantendo-se um Encarregado de Negócios em Bridgetown: em novembro de 1985, instalou-se a atual Embaixada na capital barbadiana.
