THE CITY BIBLICAL OF AI
Ai é o nome de uma cidade bíblica que se situava na terra de Canaã, e o livro de Gênesis diz que o segundo lugar de Canaã onde Abraão edificou um altar a Deus na Terra Prometida tudo indica ter sido entre Ai e Betel.
Ai is the name of a Biblical city that stood in the land of Canaan, and the book of Genesis says that the second of Canaan where Abraham built an altar to God in the Promised Land seems to have been between Ai and Bethel.
Na foto (acima) et-Tell está no centro, tendo a cidade de Betel na parte superior, conforme a narrativa bíblica de Gn 12.8: “E moveu-se dali para a montanha à banda do oriente de Betel e armou a sua tenda, tendo Betel ao ocidente e Ai ao oriente; e edificou ali um altar ao SENHOR e invocou o nome do SENHOR”.

De acordo com o Livro de Josué (capítulos 7 e 8) Ai estava localizada próxima a Betel e não foi uma conquista fácil, devido à desobediência dos israelitas aos preceitos divinos, o que impôs uma derrota inicial: com o arrependimento do povo, Josué recebe orientações de Deus para atacar a cidade e vence a batalha.
According to the Book of Joshua (chapters 7 and 8) Ai was located next to Bethel and was not an easy achievement because of the Israelites' disobedience to the divine precepts, which imposed an initial defeat, with the repentance of the people, Joshua receives guidance from God to attack the city and wins the battle.
O relato bíblico nos diz que Josué, estando em Jericó, enviou um grupo de soldados para o oeste da cidade, onde deveriam aguardar o momento do ataque, porém, quando o exército de Ai partiu para o ataque, os israelitas que estavam em frente usando estratégia de combate dispersaram-se para distrair o adversário, então os demais soldados que estavam destacados não perderam a oportunidade e invadiram e destruíram a Ai.

A cidade de Ai bíblica é usualmente associada com et-Tell, porque o local topográfico é fronteiriço a Ai: recentemente, um sítio arqueológico em Betel, chamado Khibert el-Makatir, foi sugerido como apto a satisfazer os requisitos textuais, geográficos e, especialmente, arqueológicos para Ai, já que tem uma colina e um vale ao norte e, ainda, ao que parece, restos de uma pequena fortaleza que data de aproximadamente 1.400 a.C., a mesma época da conquista feita por Josué.
The biblical city of Ai is usually associated with et-Tell, because the local topography is border Ai: recently, an archaeological site in Bethel, called el-Khibert Makati, was suggested as able to meet the textual requirements, geographical, and especially , for archaeological Ai, as it has a hill and a valley to the north and, further, it seems, remains of a small fortress dating back to about 1.400 BC, the same time of conquest by Joshua.

Mesmo com a identificação popular de que et-Tell é a antiga cidade de Ai (aceita pelos cristãos em geral), é prudente que se aguarde o avanço das pesquisas arqueológicas naquela região, para que haja um consenso geral, pois alguns segmentos da arqueologia ainda não pensam assim (que et-Tell é a antiga Ai).
Even with the popular identification of that et-Tell is the ancient city of Ai (accepted by Christians in general), it is prudent to wait for the advancement of archaeological research in that area, so there is a general consensus, as some segments of archeology still do not (et-Tell is that the former Ai).
