No Primeiro Livro dos Reis (21:7), a Bíblia Sagrada fala de uma personagem que é identificada como mulher afeita à corrupção, que conseguiu fazer com que israelitas se curvassem diante de deuses pagãos e, por cima, conseguiu também induzir Acabe (seu esposo) a se apropriar indevidamente de terras dos súditos do reino, esta mulher é Jezabel.
