Listra era uma antiga cidade da província romana da Licônia e que passou a fazer parte do sul da Galácia, depois que esta outra província veio a ser ampliada, provavelmente na época de Augusto: situava-se a cerca de 30km a sul de Icônio, a atual Konya, e teria sido um dos locais por onde o apóstolo Paulo anunciou o Evangelho em suas viagens missionárias, conforme relata o livro de Atos do Novo Testamento da Bíblia.
Lystra was a city of ancient Roman province of Lycaonia and became part of southern Galatia, another province after this came to be extended, probably at the time of Augustus, was located about 30 km south of Iconium, the current Konya, and was one of the places where the apostle Paul proclaimed the Gospel in his missionary journeys, as reported in the book of Acts in the New Testament of the Bible.
De acordo com o capítulo 14 de Atos, após ter escapado da perseguição em Icônio, Paulo e Barnabé entraram na cidade para evangelizarem e numa ocasião foi curado um paralítico de nascença: por causa disso, os habitantes de Listra pensaram que os dois missionários fossem a encarnação dos deuses pagãos Júpiter e Mercúrio, tendo impedido, com muita dificuldade, que as multidões lhes oferecessem sacrifícios de adoração.
In accordance with Chapter 14 of Acts, after escaping persecution in Iconium Paul and Barnabas came into town to evangelize and on one occasion was healed a paralyzed man from birth: for that, the people of Lystra thought that the two missionaries were the incarnation of the pagan gods Jupiter and Mercury, and prevented, with much difficulty that the crowds they offered sacrifices of worship.

A cidade de Listra foi fundada por volta de 6 a.C. e povoada por veteranos romanos e os seus habitantes eram cidadãos romanos, sendo que nela foi encontrado um pedestal com uma inscrição em latim que continha o nome Lustra.
The city of Lystra was founded around 6 BC and populated by Roman veterans and their inhabitants were Roman citizens, and it was found a pedestal with an inscription in Latin that contained the name Lustra.
Este pedestal identifica Listra com um local chamado Zoldera, que se situa a 1.6km a noroeste de Khatyn Serai, lugar este que fica a 37km a sul-sudoeste de Icônio, a atual Konya: Paulo e Barnabé pregaram nesta cidade durante a sua primeira viagem missionária e aí fundaram uma Igreja.
