= PENA DE MORTE É PECADO, SABIA? =

Tem sido grande a polêmica em torno da pena de morte. Sim ou não? Há os que defendem sua implantação em nossos pais. Muitos são contra. Ambas as posições são encontradas em todas as denominações evangélicas e cada um procura de alguma maneira, justificar seu ponto-de-vista.

Dentre os que defendem a pena de morte, como necessária para acabar com a violência reinante, especialmente nos centros urbanos mais populosos, há os que citam até passagens das Sagradas Escrituras, buscando nelas alguma fundamentação.

Encontramos, também, citações bíblicas respaldando posições contrárias à implantação da pena de morte.

Mas, prezados leitores, para o crente não deve haver qualquer hesitação, muito especialmente se vier a ser realizada em nossos pais uma consulta popular oficial para aferir o desejo da maioria. Sim, o crente não pode claudicar num momento tão melindroso como este e voltar a favor da implantação da pena de morte. E por uma razão muito simples: antes de ser um novo instrumento de violência e capaz de criar lesões irreparáveis (uma vida ceifada não pode ser devolvida), em caso de execução injusta (erro judiciário), como propagam os juristas contrários, a pena de morte é pecado. É o que está escrito na Bíblia, com bastante clareza, num texto que não deixa a menor dúvida.

Sabemos que o apedrejamento era modo ordinário de aplicar a pena de morte, prescrita pela lei dos hebreus (Lv 20.2) e um processo muito antigo empregado, não apenas pelos hebreus, mas também pelos macedônios e pelos persas. Havia uma lei que proibia que o cadáver daquele que fosse alvo da pena capital ficasse no túmulo da família. Após a égide da dispensação da graça de Deus a pena de morte passou a ser pecado e, portanto, sua aplicação desagrada ao Senhor.

Mas alguém, que defende a pena de morte dizendo que ela tem base bíblica, pode indagar: onde está escrito na Bíblia que pena de morte é pecado? A resposta é simples, prezados leitores, e está no Novo Testamento, mais exatamente em Atos. Quando Estevão era submetido à pena de morte por apedrejamento, já prestes a expirar, ajoelhou-se e clamou ao Senhor: “... não lhes imputes este pecado” (At 7.60).

= DEATH PENALITY IS SINNED, HE KNEW? =

It has been great controversy surrounding the death penalty. Yes or no? There are those who support its implementation in our country. Many are against. Both positions are found in all evangelical denominations and each looking for some way, justify their point of view.

Among those who support the death penalty, as required to stop the violence prevalent, especially in the more populous urban centers, there are passages which refer to the Scriptures, seeking them some reasons.

We found, too, backed positions biblical citations against the deployment of the death penalty.

But, dear readers, for the believer there should be no hesitation, especially if it be in our country an official popular consultation to ascertain the wish of the majority. Yes, the believer can not hobble a very sensitive time like this and return to the deployment of the death penalty. And for one simple reason: before a new instrument of violence and to create irreparable injury (a cut life can not be returned) in case of unfair enforcement (judicial error), and propagate the lawyers, the penalty of death is sin. This is what is written in the Bible, quite clearly, in a text that does not leave the slightest doubt.

We know that stoning was the ordinary mode of applying the death penalty, prescribed by the law of the Hebrews (Lev 20.2) and a very old employee, not only by the Hebrews, but also by the Macedonian and the Persian. There was a law that prohibited the corpse that it was subject of capital punishment was in the family tomb. After the aegis of the dispensation of God's grace the death penalty became a sin, and therefore its application displeases the Lord.

But someone who supports the death penalty, saying she has biblical basis, you can ask, where is written in the Bible that the death penalty is sin? The answer is simple, dear readers, and is in the New Testament, more exactly in Acts. When Stephen was put to death by stoning, as about to expire, kneel down and cried to the Lord: “... this does not impute sin ” (Acts 7.60).
